Proposed Qantas 787-9 direct service from Perth to London

Perth Airport currently has three airline partners who already fly the Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner and is keen to see Qantas fly this state-of-the-art aircraft into Perth.

Perth Airport has offered Qantas a generous multi-million dollar incentive package which will allow the airline to leverage off the existing fit for purpose facilities in Terminal 1 International, where a recent investment of $250 million to upgrade facilities has been completed.

T1 International therefore already has the capacity to accommodate direct services to the United Kingdom and Europe, and these services can commence from T1 International at any time.

Perth Airport is still in discussions with Qantas regarding a range of issues including infrastructure and international processing requirements, the extent of future services, and how these might impact resourcing and international processing areas at Perth Airport.

The proposed Perth to London direct service would carry approximately 150,000 passengers per year. Currently, Perth Airport processes around 4.3 million passengers through T1 International.

Our significant investment in T1 International and the surrounding international precinct has been in support of expanding all our Airline partners’ businesses by providing a welcoming and iconic entry statement into Western Australia combined with a superior customer experience.

Passenger access to T1 International has also been greatly enhanced by the completion of Gateway WA, the $1 billion road project funded by the Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments; and the development of the $2 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link which will provide direct access to T1 International. Construction of the $2 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL) project commenced this month on 3 November 2016. This project will see the Airport train station located adjacent to T1.

The expanded capacity at T1 International is already placed to meet Qantas’ requirements for its non-stop service to London and the facilities can be guaranteed to be ready whenever Qantas chooses to commence the service.

The interests of the public, the State of Western Australia and our airline partners are at the core of our business. This is reflected in the transformation of Perth Airport through the successful delivery of over $1billion of projects in recent years, which has greatly increased the amenity and capacity of the airport.

Qantas this week submitted additional information to Perth Airport in relation to the proposed new service which we are currently reviewing.
