Perth Airport launches ridesharing with Uber

19 December, 2016
Perth Airport will welcome popular ridesharing operator Uber to the significant range of transport options already available to its customers.

The new rideshare facilities have been made possible by the State Government’s on-demand transport reforms which now allow new entrants, such as Uber, to competitively operate in Western Australia.

“The introduction of Uber further enhances the transport choices available to passengers travelling to and from Perth Airport,” said Kevin Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport.

The rideshare facilities – which are compliant with State Government legislation – include remote holding areas for drivers while they wait for a trip request.

To ensure customer service is maintained at Perth Airport, designated safe wait zones will be provided for customers near the front of the terminal.

“Uber joins the significant suite of transport options already available at Perth Airport which include Taxis, car rentals, public transport and our very own Connect shuttle bus,” said Mr Brown.

“Passenger access to Perth Airport has also been greatly enhanced by the completion of Gateway WA, the $1 billion road project funded by the Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments.”

“We are also working closely with the State and Commonwealth Government to deliver the $2 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link which will provide direct public rail access to Perth Airport”.

“Perth Airport looks forward to working with other rideshare companies to enhance transport options for our customers in the future,” added Mr Brown.

Uber General Manager for Western Australia Tom White welcomed the move as a win for passenger choice.

We’ve worked closely with Perth Airport to ensure our technology makes ground connections simple and hassle-free for passengers who want to ride with uberX out of the airport each week,” Mr White said.

“As we head into the busy Christmas and New Year season, we’re super excited to launch airport pick-ups and help cater for the strong passenger demand expected throughout the period.”

“We’ve seen customers from more than 70 countries log on to the Uber app in Perth, so we are confident this development will be warmly welcomed by international visitors."

Passengers requesting a ride from the airport will be directed within the Uber app to a safe wait zone outside the terminal to meet up with their driver.

Perth Airport’s rideshare facilities will be available from 9.00am Wednesday 21 December 2016.
