Celebrate Chinese New Year in Shanghai with direct flight tickets now on sale

03 November, 2019
Western Australians keen to be a part of all the colour and excitement of Chinese New Year in Shanghai can now buy their tickets for China Eastern Airlines’ non-stop direct service from Perth.

The airline’s five-week seasonal trial over Chinese New Year will offer three non-stop flights operating between Perth (PER) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) per week between 15 January and 17 February 2020.

Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brown said the trial provides a great opportunity for Western Australians looking to book that special New Year holiday away.

“These flights will provide the perfect opportunity to see the amazing city of Shanghai, which is one of the greatest places to experience the traditionally flamboyant and colourful celebration of the Chinese New Year.

“Shanghai is also home to one of the world’s most famous shopping streets, Nanjing Road, and a city steeped in tradition with the beautiful Yu Garden and the Longhua Temple built in AD242.

“All of these experiences and more beckon for Western Australians and will now be just 10 hours away on this non-stop flight from Perth.

“We are working hard to ensure this trial – the first direct service between Perth and Shanghai – eventuates into an all year-round service for Western Australia.

“If the trial is successful and leads to the introduction of three weekly services year-round, it could mean an additional $40 million in tourism spend for the WA economy,” Mr Brown said.

“It offers great potential for both tourism and business in Western Australia and we look forward to building a strong partnership with China Eastern Airlines to ensure the trial’s success.

“By working together with tourism, business, educational institutions and government, we can help to ensure we maximise these opportunities to deliver significant benefits to Western Australia,” he said.

China Eastern Airlines, a member of the SkyTeam global alliance, has an industry-leading extended route network that serves 1,150 cities in 175 countries worldwide.

The flights MU265 and MU266 will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving into Perth at 9.50am and departing at 11.50am.
