Cautious border re-opening a welcome move

CEO Kevin Brown said Perth Airport had played a leading role in ensuring the travelling public was safe and secure during the global pandemic.

“The aviation sector has been hit hard by Covid-19 and Perth Airport has not been immune to that,” Mr Brown said.

“Since April we have lost around six million passengers compared to the same period last year.

“This has had a swift and brutal impact on our finances. Despite this we have remained operational 24/7 to serve the people of Western Australia, servicing critical FIFO flights, freight operations and repatriation flights.

“We have followed the advice of health experts and worked with the governments, our airline partners and our retail partners to help contain the spread of the virus.

“We have done an enormous amount of work ensuring our airport is Covid-safe for everyone who works in or travels through our terminals.

“We were the first Australian airport to receive an international Covid-safe rating from the Airports Council International.

“So, we are ready to go when the controlled borders come into play on November 14.

“This staged re-opening is a cautious and responsible move and we’ll be working with the State Government to ensure it is a success.

“While Perth Airport and airports across Australia are still facing enormous financial challenges, today’s announcement is great news for aviation, tourism and hospitality and the thousands of jobs these industries support.”
