Perth Airport ready for NSW and VIC flights
Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown says he expects a gradual build up in passenger numbers over the coming weeks and has appealed for patience as passengers are still required to undergo Government processes upon arrival at the airport.
“Passengers arriving on interstate flights are still required to undergo a temperature check as they step off the plane and they also must have a completed G2G declaration.“It’s important that passengers fill out their G2G pass prior to boarding as it will help them to move quickly and efficiently through the terminal on arrival.
“This is a big step for Western Australia’s Covid-19 recovery and it’s essential that we all take the extra time to make sure we’ve got it right.”
Part of the preparations for the expected increase in interstate passengers is the staged re-opening of T1 Domestic terminal to facilitate Virgin Australia’s services.
T1 Domestic has been closed for a number of months with Virgin Australia’s services departing and arriving via Terminal 2.
From Tuesday 8 December all Virgin Australia interstate and non-charter intrastate services will be utilising gates within T1 Domestic, however for the first week, all passengers will still be required to check-in at T2 and use the interconnecting walkway to T1 Domestic, which is accessible from the T2 Departure Lounge.
“This will allow Virgin Australia to ramp up its operations following the airline standing down a number of staff during the pandemic,” Mr Brown said.
“Our team will be working closely with Virgin Australia to ensure passengers get to where they need to be, but we do ask that everyone shows a bit of patience during the re-opening of the terminal.”
From Monday 14 December, T1 Domestic Check-in and Security Screening will re-open for certain periods of the week as Virgin ramps up its operations in Perth.
Qantas interstate and intrastate services will continue to operate out of Terminal 3 and Terminal 4.
“We recommend that passengers check with their airline and on their itinerary to ensure that they know which terminal they are arriving into and departing from and to be patient as our airline partners ramp up their operations,” Mr Brown said.
Perth Airport recently became the first Australian airport to achieve an international Covid-safe rating from the Airports Council International.
“Our terminals are ready and waiting and the fact we have been given a global tick as a Covid-safe airport is testament to the work our team and our airline partners have done to keep everyone who travels through or works in our terminals safe.
“We’ve got extra touch-free hand sanitisers, additional signage, public announcements and floor markings to promote physical distancing, and enhanced terminal cleaning processes,” he continued.
